french pressin'

On my way through Target the other day I found this fabulous *lime green* french press. I had been looking for a good price on one recently and when I spotted this one,

I couldn't turn it down!

I got it for a GREAT price: $8! (in case you were wondering they are normally $20 and up)

I learned to use these when I worked at Starbucks and fell in love with the way coffee tasted in a french press vs. regular drip coffee makers.

and here's my finished product.. a little on the lighter side,

but getting the water to grinds ratio just right, takes some practice. :)

it's safe to say I had the best valentine's day ever!

steven came to gainesville for the weekend to see me and pampered me with gifts. he is way too sweet and got me this really beautiful necklace.. the picture isn't great but here it is:

beyond that we saw the movie Valentine's Day -- loved it! I thought it was really well put together considering how many great actors/actresses were in it!

unfortunately he had friday and saturday off from work but not sunday so he drove back to jax to work and then got off early enough to drive back to g-ville to see me and eat dinner together. i told him that wasn't necessary but he is soooo sweet and wanted to spend

valentine's day with me. :)

while i was at home i got roses delivered.

and when he got back from work he and i made some dinner together.

we even drank some of my new favorite wine:

Spatlese Riesling..found it in the german riesling wine section if you're interested.

it was very sweet and romantic there in the dim light of my apartment kitchen. haha.

a labor of LOVE

I decided for Valentine's Day to really shower my love with fun gifts and surprises :)

I found this recipe a few months back and it looked so cute so I thought I'd try it out. They are Butter mint Hearts.

Well, after gathering my ingredients I got started. It was a VERY messy endeavor.. or maybe I am just not coordinated with measuring and mixing the ingredients like i should be. :)

I had some trouble getting it to the consistency it indicated on the recipe but I went to cutting out the hearts nevertheless.

Cutting the hearts out of my "dough" was very complicated. I ended up making little discs of the dough and then placing the cookie cutter down and tearing the extra dough off from around the cutter. This took quite a while.

(That was the main difficulty in making these)

Once they all were cut out I let them sit overnight and then went to work making my "icing." Let's just put it this way... on the recipe it turned out quite differently than mine! My icing was a little gooey and watery... if that makes any sense.

Either way I figure its the thought that counts and they will indeed taste good if nothing else!
